Built around a story that questions how low already disgraceful people are willing to go to fulfill their own selfish needs, The Go-Getters only becomes funnier the more off putting it becomes, morphing into a completely ridiculous and gleefully nasty bit of business. LaLonde and writers Abrams and Brendan Gall quickly prove that they have nowhere to go but down and in a hurry. The Go-Getters opens with someone getting pissed on, and really a film that kicks off with such an abrasive, but amusing note can only go up or down from there. To get there by bus, they need to raise the seemingly manageable sum of $98, which considering their penchant for self-sabotage and overall loathsomeness towards others and each other, is easier said than done. Kevin takes some pity on his brother, allowing him to move his mattress into the boiler room of his Toronto dive bar. A rapid fire series of escalating, misanthropic schemes enacted by a pair of characters that could most charitably be called unlikable, The Go-Getters assuredly won’t be to everyone’s comedic taste. I wish this movie had been a little big longer, at least to have more comedic moments between Owen and Lacie, they really do have a lot of good chemistry.Deliberately grotesque, unapologetically foul-mouthed, and frequently hilarious Canadian comedy The Go-Getters revels in bad taste and worse behavior. The more serious moments also work themselves into the storyline very well, especially with Owen's brother Kevin. Has a lot of 'gross' but darkly humorous moments that'll catch you off guard. For example, the sitemap above uses addprefixaddsuffix]. The image widget is updated to support a new tv-image-template-filter filter for converting tiddler titles into URLs. There's currently no way to trigger it from the browser. There is also a new "filesystem" publisher module. For example, the JSZip plugin ought to be able to work under Node.js but currently uses browser techniques to download the finished zip file. There are a number of rough edges to explore and fix. The modal mechanism is extended to support an optional progress bar. Previously, the JS code didn't know about any of that, it just supported messages for publishing individual routes, assembled in an elaborate action string. The idea is that sitemaps can be shared across different jobs, and routes can be shared across different sitemaps. Also, if the hole is right in front of the baby’s head, more fluid will come out in a gush and conversely only an occasional trickle may escape if the hole is higher up.Ī deeply engaged head will act as a plug, so if your baby's head is deep in your pelvis you may experience a slow trickle that can be very confusing, making it hard to know for sure what is going on, while a head that is floating higher up in the pelvis can be the stage for a big gush!Īs you get closer to term, your body releases enzymes whose job it is to weaken the amniotic sac. Having a lot of fluid usually means more escapes when your water breaks. How much fluid you lose depends on a variety of factors including the amount of fluid you have surrounding your baby (everybody is different), where the hole in the sac occurs, and how deeply your baby’s head is engaged in the pelvis. The amount of fluid that leaks out can range from a tablespoon that leaves your underwear damp – thus the question: Did I just Pee? - to cups of fluid that gush out, running down your legs and leaving no question as to what is going on. When your water breaks or membranes rupture, it means that a hole has been made in the bag of fluid (AKA "amniotic sac") that surrounds your baby while she is growing in your womb. So the good news is that you don’t have to feel trapped in your house and avoid public places for fear of your membranes rupturing! The probability is low it will happen in the grocery store! What really happens when your water breaks? This means your chances of experiencing this potentially awkward situation without any other signs of labour is around 10-14%. ![]() ![]() Setting the facts straight: Is your water breaking or are you just peeing?Ĭontrary to what we see in the movies and on television, most women's "water" does not spontaneously break (AKA "ruptured membranes") until they are in well-established labour – it actually most commonly happens between 7 and 10 cms dilated. ![]() Uh, so probably about, um, six months before diagnosis, I, I started to really get some of the symptoms, um, that you would consider to be type one where I was really not feeling good after eating, um, dry mouth, dry eyes, starting to go to the bathroom a lot. They aren’t wrong, although I imagine that a very small amount of people that buy these, especially in a folding knife, actually require a hefty piercing-capable blade. Speaking of piercing capability, Cold Steel and their excellent marketing department really pounded home the idea of the Americanized tanto being an excellent piercing capable blade shape. The second edge between the secondary point and the handle makes for a really good cutting and slicing surface which is almost as utilitarian as the drop point or clip point. I know, the tanto is usually talked about in terms of combat and its excellent capability to be violent in a piercing mannerism, but in all honestly, I really feel like the tanto is used more to open things up with precision than anything else for your average everyday knife user. For example, that front edge between the two points actually makes for an excellent box and letter opener. In operation, the edges typically have two different uses. Here’s a video guide for sharpening a tanto blade. When sharpening the Americanized tanto, one would sharpen both the edge between the two points and the edge between the secondary point and the handle separately as to avoid rounding off that secondary point. Does this count as a double-edged blade? Well, that depends on your lawmakers, but to most people in the knife industry, technically no, but also yes. Yes, this means the Americanized tanto actually has two points and two edges, even if the spine isn’t sharpened. If you’d like to check out a Westernized tanto being made here. The spine of the blade is typically flat or very close to being flat and, from the handle, elegantly reaches out to that initial point. At this secondary point, the blade takes a harsh turn, sometimes even 45 degrees, and shoots back to the handle in a flat or near-flat manner. The American tanto has a primary point where the cutting surface immediately shoots down straight or very close to being straight, where there is a secondary point. It’s no wonder this blade shape has so many opinions surrounding it, as it often stands out when set next to most of the other blade shapes, and to be honest, many people would agree that it has this tacticool feel to its design in comparison with the boring old drop point. The Western version sometimes dubbed the American version or the “geometric tanto”, has a very edgy look and feel (no pun intended). The Tanto Blade Shape Explained (American Version) Now, one isn’t better than the other, but they do certainly have their own pros, cons, and use cases and it’s important to know the difference. It’s no surprise that the original knife enthusiast Americans that came across the Japanese tanto thought it was awesome but also thought it needed a bit of tweaking to fully encompass their vision of what a tanto should be. American Version vs Japanese Version of the Tanto BladeĪmerica has a long history of learning cool stuff from other countries and then, well, Americanizing it. Just like the grind, the actual steel composition of the blade will also dictate its performance across use cases, and as such, if you’d like to brush up on some of the most common knife steel types, refer to our blade steels guide here. If you’d like to learn more about the grind of a blade, check out our knife grinds guide here. Most of this guide will focus on the Americanized version of the tanto because that’s what is most popular among the western consumer market for both pocket knives and fixed blades and, honestly, because they’re dang cool and great blades to own.īefore we get into the nitty-gritty, it’s important to note that, just like all of the other blade shapes, the other factors of geometry apply here and will change how the blade behaves. By the end of this guide, you’ll know exactly what the tanto is, the differences between the original version of the tanto and the American version of the tanto, and finally, the use cases and performance of the tanto blade shape. The tanto shape, however, is much more than that. Many mistakingly see the tanto blade as a Japanese gimmick that has only one real use, piercing stuff better than some of the other blade shapes. It’s also one of our favorites here at Marine Approved, and by the end of this article, you’ll know exactly why. ![]() The tanto blade shape is without a doubt one of the most unique and misunderstood blade shapes. We thought, “We’re not going to make a very good impression on Chicago. ![]() Happily enough, it was being broadcast live. And now they have to suffer through a second non-UFO act - torture! They might have been camped out for two days to get tickets. They had already suffered through one band. Now, they despised the Romantics, because they didn’t have a heavy sound, and they were all dressed in matching leather, and their hair was perfect. At least we had a heavy sound, especially “Leah.” They tolerated us, but just barely. We got the impression we weren’t that welcome there. You could see their tolerance - or lack thereof - quite clearly. All we could see was the absolute most hardcore UFO fans in the building, sitting up front. The place was full, but all we could really see or hear was this black arena. At the time, our impression was, “These people hate us.” All we could see was the first 20 or 30 rows of UFO fans. Probably about halfway through the set, I could tell we weren’t very well liked. We weren’t really welcomed by the heavy metal fans. For me, the show was only memorable from the standpoint of what went on during the show. I think that’s the same thing that happened with Hall and Oates. Another heavy metal band, you’re tapping the same crowd. But if you put a couple different bands on the bill, that will bring in different people, and now you’ve sold out the whole arena. So that might not sell out the whole place. If they’re going to sell 10,000 seats, they don’t need any help selling to heavy metal fans. Hoenes: It was not a run-of-the-mill show. |
